I speak often about innovative approaches on understanding and interpreting cultural resources.

Next talk:

“Route 66 in California: A Multi-Year, Multidisciplinary Effort,” Preservation Springs Eternal: The California Preservation Conference, Palm Springs, May 8-11, 2019.

I will highlight this nearly 10-year series of projects to research the history of the Mother Road in California, document the resources along the route, and the ways it reflects important themes of not only the open road but also reflects great aspects of American history.

I consider how roads serve as important cultural icons and multi-faceted meanings and the challenges they present for preservation.
